David Bell Dies After Crash on Highway 247 near Rattlesnake Canyon Road
Lucerne Valley, California – Authorities have identified David Bell, 84, of Palm Desert as the man killed in a fiery traffic crash on Monday afternoon in Lucerne, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.
The deadly collision occurred at about 2:25 p.m. on July 15, on Highway 247 near Rattlesnake Canyon Road.
The California Highway Patrol officers said a heavy-duty 2009 Ford F-550 pickup truck and a 2024 Toyota Prius collided for unknown reasons.
Bell was heading south on the highway in the Toyota when he crossed over the painted solid double yellow lines for unknown reasons. The Toyota ultimately crashed head-on into the pickup truck heading northbound.
The impact caused the Toyota to burst into flames.
The truck was carrying canisters of propane. The car rolled over and halted on a dirt shoulder. Several propane tanks on the Ford exploded.
Following the crash impact, Bell was thrown off from his vehicle. He was wearing his seat belt at the time.
Responding emergency crews declared Bell dead at the crash site.
The pickup truck driver, 35-year-old man from Adelanto, and his passenger , 52-year-old Apple Valley man, both sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized.
An investigation is underway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:09 p.m. at Magnolia Avenue and Myers Street.
A motorcyclist reportedly collided with a vehicle on the roadway in unclear circumstances.
The male rider was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Oxnard, California: A motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition after being involved in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Saturday afternoon at an intersection in Oxnard.
The incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. at Ventura Road and Second Street.
Authorities said a 26-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2022 Toyota Tacoma heading northbound on Ventura Road when he failed to yield to three other drivers while making a left turn at the intersection and caused a collision.
A motorcyclist involved in the crash was hospitalized in critical condition.
Officers are investigating drug impairment as a possible contributing factor.

Isleton, California: A motorcyclist was hospitalized after colliding with a car Sunday afternoon near Isleton, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident was reported just after 2 p.m. on State Route 160 near State Route 12.
A rider on a red motorcycle reportedly attempted to pass a black Ford Focus but hit it.
Solano County firefighters responded to the scene and requested an air ambulance to transport the seriously injured rider to a hospital.
The victim was airlifted to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center in unknown condition.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
