Driver Dies After Crashing into Caltrans Truck at Redwood City Construction Zone

Redwood City, California: A driver died after crashing his car into a Caltrans vehicle early Saturday morning at a construction area in Redwood City.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue.

A man driving a Subaru Crosstrek northbound in the center lane reportedly suddenly turned to the left onto the closed portion of the roadway where construction work was in progress.

The Subaru crashed into a Ram construction truck parked in the area with an illuminated arrow board that was directing traffic to the right.

The closed portion of the roadway was “clearly marked” with orange traffic cones and multiple construction vehicles with their emergency lights activated were also in the area.

The driver of the Subaru died in the crash.

The Ram driver sustained minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating the collision.
