48-Year-Old Gilverto Castro Killed in Traffic Collision Involving Kern High School District School Bus on Mount Vernon Avenue

Driver Killed in Bakersfield Crash with School Bus Identified

Bakersfield, California: 48-year-old Gilverto Moreno Castro of Lamont was the driver who died on August 24 in a head-on collision involving a Kern High School District school bus.

The wreck occurred around 6:33 p.m. on Mount Vernon Avenue south of Belle Terrace.

According to police, Castro was driving a Toyota Sienna southbound on Mount Vernon, and the school bus was traveling northbound on the same road.

Authorities said, for an unknown reason, the Sienna veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the school bus.

Castro was killed in the crash.

The school bus was occupied by 38 students and the driver.

The driver and two passengers were taken to Kern Medical Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

The school bus was taking the varsity Golden Valley High School football team to a game at East High School.
