Driver Killed in Crash Involving Phoenix Officer near 35th Ave and Thunderbird Rd

Phoenix, Arizona: 19-year-old Ashley Vailes died in a car collision involving a Phoenix police officer Thursday morning, authorities said.

The collision occurred just before 9 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

A police officer was driving a vehicle with a prisoner as a passenger going westbound on Thunderbird when the officer attempted to turn south onto 35th and collided with a vehicle driven by Vailes.

Vailes’ car was traveling eastbound on Thunderbird at the time of the collision. The vehicle crashed into a light pole and then a power box after the first impact, then caught fire.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire.

Vailes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Vailes failed to stop at a red light just before the accident.

The officer involved and the prisoner were hospitalized as a precaution.

The collision is under investigation.

Carlos Gonzalez Killed in Victorville Vehicle Collision at La Mesa Road

Victorville, California – Officer Carlos Gonzalez has been identified as the individual killed in a traffic collision early Sunday morning in Victorville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at the La Mesa Road and Amethyst Road intersection at about 1:45 a.m.

Police said a blue 2002 Ford Ranger broadsided a black Toyota Camry. The Camry sustained extensive damage while the Ford rolled over and landed on the grass at Liberty Elementary School.

Gonzalez was killed in the collision. His passenger was critically hurt.

The Camry occupants, possibly three, were taken to a hospital for review.

The incident remains under investigation.

Araiza was hit by a car for unknown reasons.

She was declared dead at the accident scene.

The involved driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative.

Man Injured in Pacific Beach Motorcycle Accident at Grand and Kendall Avenues

Pacific Beach, California – A motorcyclist sustained major injuries Sunday night after colliding with a vehicle in Pacific Beach.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the accident happened around 8:33 p.m. at Grand and Kendall Avenues.

A 33-year-old man was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Grand Avenue when he entered the bicycle lane in an attempt to pass stopped traffic.

At the same time, a 33-year-old man was driving a 2020 Jeep Cherokee westbound on Grand Avenue, when he made a turn onto Kendal Avenue and broadsided the motorcycle.

The rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
