Driver Killed in Head-On Crash with Semi-Truck in Long Beach ID’d

Long Beach, California: 64-year-old Silverio Arturo Velasquez Jr. died in a head-on collision involving a semi-truck that happened Wednesday afternoon in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Los Angeles resident died in a collision that happened just before 4 p.m. near West Anaheim and Ninth streets.

According to police, Valesquez was driving a 2009 Lexus sedan northbound on West Ninth when he made an “unsafe” turn onto westbound Anaheim and collided head-on with a 2014 Volvo semi-truck going southbound at the intersection.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and found Velasquez unconscious and with life-threatening injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 30-year-old Santa Ana resident driving the semi-truck remained at the scene.

Authorities said speed is a possible factor in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
