Driver with 4 DUIs Arrested After Fatally Hitting Pedestrian in Orange

Orange, California: The Orange Police Department said a 31-year-old driver suspected of DUI was arrested after he fatally hit a pedestrian and fled the scene Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 11:18 a.m. in the 300 block of North Tustin Street.

Orange police officers were notified about the collision and responded to the scene where they found a man with traumatic injuries lying on the roadway.

The victim died at the scene.

Witnesses told the officers that the deceased was crossing the street outside of

a crosswalk when he got hit by a silver sedan.

About 10 minutes later, officers located a silver sedan with major front-end damage driving north on Glassell Street at Katella Avenue.

The officers started a chase that lasted over a mile before the driver pulled over.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Lopez from Orange, was arrested.

Police said Lopez showed signs of alcohol intoxication. He faces charges of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and evading, and vehicular homicide.

Authorities also said the suspect had four prior DUI convictions in the last decade and he does not have a valid driver’s license.
