Enrique Lopez Killed in Otay Mesa Accident on 805 Freeway near 905 Freeway

Enrique Lopez  ID’d as Man Killed in Otay Mesa DUI Crash

San Diego, California (September 13, 2023) – A man killed following an alleged DUI accident on Sunday morning in Otay Mesa has been identified as Enrique Valerio Lopez, 58, of Tijuana, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The deadly accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on September 10 on Interstate 805 near State Route 905.

As per a California Highway Patrol report, Lopez was heading northbound on the freeway in a Honda SUV when a Volkswagen coupe rear-ended his SUV.

The Honda then drove off the roadway while the Volkswagen slammed into the median following the crash.

Lopez was declared dead at the scene.

The Volkswagen driver, identified as a man from Escondido, suffered injuries and was transported to a medical center.

Police suspected alcohol or drugs to have played a role in the collision.

An investigation is ongoing.
