Estela Gallegos Dies in Tucson Car Crash at Drexel and Palo Verde Roads

Tucson, Arizona – A woman, 68, was killed in a car crash at an intersection in Tucson on Friday evening, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The 5 p.m. crash happened at the intersection of East Drexel Road and South Palo Verde Road.

Authorities say Estela Gallegos was driving her car eastbound on East Drexel Road when she was struck by a van traveling southbound on South Palo Verde Road.

The van driver, 64-year-old Ignacio Peña, is reported to have run a red light at the intersection, causing the crash.

Gallegos died at the hospital.

Pena suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was cited for causing death by moving violation.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
