Gelvy Ortiz Loses Leg After DUI Suspect Hit Him at Bus Stop in Santa Monica

Santa Monica, California: 18-year-old Gelvy Velazquez Ortiz remains hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center, where he had his leg amputated after he was struck by a DUI suspect at a bus stop in Santa Monica.

On June 2, Ortiz was going home from work when a DUI suspect veered off the road and struck him while he sat on a bench at a bus stop.

The crash left Ortiz with serious injuries that forced doctors to amputate his left leg. The doctors also needed to do several surgeries on the other leg before he can fully recover.

Police officers arrested the driver of the car for felony DUI, but the suspect was later released after posting bail. He is currently awaiting trial.

Ortiz is the youngest of four orphaned siblings. The family lives together and said they must find a new home since the current apartment has too many steps.

Sacramento County, California: Two people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Thursday afternoon at an intersection in Antelope.

According to the Sacramento Metro Fire District, the accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at Antelope and Roseville roads.

Three vehicles collided, trapping two occupants in the wreckage.

Firefighters responded to the scene and freed the victims. The patients were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Kenneth Joseph McLeod Killed in Irvine Motorcycle Accident

Irvine, California: 65-year-old Kenneth Joseph McLeod died after he collided with a car while riding a motorcycle Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in Irvine.

The accident was reported around 4:50 p.m. at Alton Parkway and Foster.

Investigators said McLeod was riding a motorcycle southbound on Alton when he ran a red light at Foster and crashed into a Tesla turning left from northbound Alton onto westbound Foster.

The Tesla had a green light at the time of the crash.

McLeod died at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Victorville, California: A woman riding a motorized wheelchair was injured when she was hit by a car Thursday morning at an intersection in Victorville.

The accident was reported around 8:48 a.m. at Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road.

Victorville police, firefighters, and AMR responded to the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

A man driving a black Nissan was found at the scene but it was not clear if he was the driver involved in the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
