Templeton, California – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on crash that seriously injured Grant McKenzie early Tuesday morning in Templeton.
The accident happened on Highway 46 near Cholame Y at around midnight on July 23.
Police said a 2020 Hyundai was heading westbound on the highway when it drove into the eastbound lane as it tried to pass a semi-truck and crashed head-on into a 2005 Ford F350.
The Hyundai driver and their passenger were declared dead at the crash site. Their names were not immediately released awaiting notification of family.
The Ford driver, Grant McKenzie, sustained severe injuries and was taken to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around midnight on Highway 46, east of the Cholame Y.
A Hyundai reportedly veered into oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass a tractor-trailer and collided head-on with a Ford truck.
The impact of the crash caused one of the vehicles to catch fire.
The Hyundai driver and their passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 59-year-old San Diego man driving the Ford was taken to an area hospital with severe injuries.
Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
