Gregory Cruz Killed in Rialto Crash on Santa Ana Avenue

Rialto, California – A man was killed in a head-on collision involving a suspected drunk driver on Saturday night in Rialto.

The fatal crash happened in the 300 block of West Santa Ana Avenue at around 8:43 p.m., according to the Rialto Police Department.

48-year-old Jose Saavedra-Escoto, of Bloomington, was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on Santa Ana Avenue when he drifted into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a white Chevrolet Lumina driven by 59-year-old Gregory Cruz, of Riverside.

Rialto Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced Cruz dead at the scene.

Saavedra-Escoto was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities suspect Saavedra-Escoto had been driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
