Instagram recently started testing paid subscriptions with a few content creators and influencers in the United States. It allows them to charge their followers a monthly fee in exchange for exclusive content, live videos, stories. The subscription also charges for the purple badge next to the username that shows they get subscribed when they interact with the creator.

While the paid subscriptions function is currently only available to select content producers in the United States, it has now been discovered in India, with price levels to subscribe to some content providers in local currency.

Instagram is allowing subscribing to chosen creator accounts, according to screenshots supplied by Twitter user Salman Memon (@salman memon 7). Subscription prices get given in rupees, with costs ranging from Rs. 89 to Rs. 440 to Rs. 890 each month.

Everyone is able to view the subscription page on one of the creator’s profiles, which included the ability to pay via in-app purchases on both Android and iOS. According to a report, paid subscriptions in the United States would cost $0.99 per month (approximately Rs. 74) to $99.99 per month (about Rs. 7400).

The app also displays purple badges next to usernames, as well as information on what subscribers are entitled to. This includes subscriber-only stories and exclusive live videos, as well as the subscriber badge.

In India, there is currently no option for creators to set up an account to accept paid subscriptions. “For the time being, Subscriptions will only be accessible in the United States,” an Instagram spokeswoman said, “but we plan to expand Subscriptions to other regions shortly.”

Meanwhile, TikTok, a competitor, recently announced that it was working on premium memberships. It would allow producers on the video-sharing site to monetize their work. The tool will enhance the opportunity to tip TikTok producers while also earning consistent revenue.

Last year, Twitter announced Super Follows, which allows users to share subscriber-only information with their Twitter followers. The content includes “behind-the-scenes” content, early previews, and subscriber-only chats (for tweets).
