Irvine Man Dies After Kern County Crash on Highway 46 near Kecks Road

Kern County, California – A man from Irvine died following a semi-truck collision on Friday morning in Kern County.

According to a California Highway Patrol dispatch, the deadly collision happened at around 111:15 a.m. on Highway 46, east of Kecks Road.

The CHP officials said the man, an Irvine resident was heading westbound in a 2019 Mercedes on Highway 46 when he collided with a 2015 Freightliner truck-tractor with trailer combination. The semi had failed to yield while crossing the highway westbound causing the crash.

The Mercedes driver was killed in the accident.

The semi-truck driver, 29-year-old Cesar Luis Lopez Jr. of Fresno was transported to the hospital for treatment. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

An investigation is underway.
