The latest installment of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice may take longer than expected to release.
Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League is a team of people who have committed suicide, a game in which the Suicide Squad attempts to assassinate the Justice League, which might not be released this year as planned. According to recent reports by Bloomberg, “people familiar with its development have stated that the game has been postponed. It’s unlikely to launch until 2023.
Kill the Justice League is a genre-bending action-adventure game set in an open world. It is developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros.
According to Rocksteady creative director Sefton Hill, Suicide Squad will be an open-world game set in Superman’s birthplace of Metropolis, with gameplay combining the fisticuffs of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham games with “powerful, amazing gunplay.”
The plot is currently unknown. Other than that, it places the team “on a collision course with an invading extraterrestrial force and DC Super Heroes who are now laser-focused on destroying the city they once promised to protect.”
The plot is unclear because publisher Warner Bros. is working on another superhero brawler called Gotham Knights, which is effectively a Batman game even though Batman isn’t in it. But that game is unrelated to Rocksteady’s Arkham series, which focused solely on Batman.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League follows the events of 2015’s Arkham Knight, making it the series’ next installment rather than Gotham Knights. As I already stated, it’s perplexing.
At this time, Warner hasn’t confirmed the delay, but assuming the claim is accurate, Gotham Knights could be to blame. It was supposed to be released in 2021 but was pushed back to 2022 in March of last year, and, understandably, Warner wouldn’t want to publish two thematically similar games so close together.
According to Bloomberg, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar revealed “a full portfolio of highly anticipated games” for 2022, including logos for Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights, but not Suicide Squad. I’ve contacted Warner to inquire why the delay, and I’ll keep you updated if I hear back.
