Larry Vanderhoofven Killed in Lompoc Car Crash on SR 1 near Santa Lucia Canyon Rd
Lompoc, California – A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision that left three other people injured in Lompoc Valley on Wednesday morning.
The collision happened at around 8:49 a.m. in the area of Highway 1 and Santa Lucia Canyon Road, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office.
Larry Vanderhoofven, 85, of Lompoc, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Santa Lucia Canyon Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 1 when he collided with a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Ulises Sanchez, 33.
Vanderhoofven was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, 84-year-old Patsy Vanderhoofven, of Lompoc, was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Sanchez and a passenger in the Pontiac identified as 21-year-old Severiano Avila were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
