77-Year-Old Louis Hernandez Jr. Dies in DUI 2-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Montecito
Louis Hernandez Jr. ID’d as Victim of Deadly Montecito Accident
Montecito, California: Authorities identified the man who died in a two-vehicle collision early Sunday morning in Montecito as Louis Hernandez Jr., 77, of Santa Paula.
Two vehicles collided at around 3:10 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near the Olive Mill Road exit, where the three-lane highway merges into two lanes.
A Mercury Mountaineer SUV and a Toyota Camry were involved in the accident.
The Mountaineer went down an embankment off the highway, ejecting Hernandez, who was a passenger in the car.
Hernandez suffered fatal injuries.
The driver of the Mountaineer, Virginia Montelongo, 67, of Santa Paula, sustained moderate injuries and had to be extricated from the wreckage. She was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment by American Medical Response.
Three occupants in the Camry suffered minor injuries.
22-year-old Ricki Newton from Port Hueneme was driving the Camry. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
