Man Hit and Killed by Car on I-805 in San Diego Identified

San Diego, California: The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who was hit and killed by a car Friday afternoon in San Diego as Richard Anthony Rollo, 61, of San Diego.

Rollo died at the scene of the crash, which happened around noon on northbound Interstate 805 near State Route 52.

According to authorities, Rollo was driving an Acura sedan when, for an unknown reason, collided with a Freightliner semi-truck.

Rollo parked his car near the SR-52 on-ramp, and the semi-truck pulled into the gore in between the I-805 main lanes and the connector after the crash.

The collision resulted in property damage only.

Rollo got out of his car and went to speak with the semi-truck driver, crossing across the transition lanes.

After discussing the crash, Rollo attempted to cross traffic lanes to get back to his vehicle, walking into the No. 1 Lane of the SR-52 on-ramp.

A passing white Ford pickup truck struck the man and threw him into the No. 4 Lane of I-805.

Responding paramedics pronounced Rollo dead at the scene.

Officers are still investigating the collision.
