Man Injured in Crash Involving Semi-Truck on Highway 101 in Santa Maria

Santa Maria, California: A driver was injured, and hazardous material spilled onto the roadway in a collision that happened early Sunday morning on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.

The accident was reported around 1:15 a.m. on the Santa Maria River Bridge south of State Route 166.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Amadro Avalos-Diaz of Santa Maria was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu northbound when he collided with a 2021 Peterbilt semi-truck-trailer driven by Eduardo Coria-Estrada from Santa Maria.

The semi-truck overturned after the impact.

Avalos-Diaz suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was arrested after police officers suspected he was impaired.

Coria-Estrada was reportedly not hurt.

The overturned big rig leaked fluids which prompted a hazardous material incident. The Nos. 1 and 2 lanes were closed following the crash.
