Man Killed After Backhoe Fell on Car in Oro Grande Identified

Oro Grande, California: 66-year-old Alan Todd died when a big rig hauling a backhoe hit a railroad bridge, causing the backhoe to topple onto another car Tuesday morning in Oro Grande, the San Bernardino Cunty Sheriff-Coroner reported.

The collision occurred at about 7:15 a.m. on National Trails Highway at Polish Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck with a backhoe on a trailer struck the railroad bridge near the Cal Portland Cement Plant, causing the backhoe to fall off and land on a nearby Ford.

The Ford continued south on National Trails Highway after the crash and hit a tree near the bridge.

Todd, of Helendale, and a woman occupied the Ford.

The firefighters pronounced Todd dead and rushed the woman to a hospital with serious injuries.

CHP continues to investigate the crash.
