Man Killed in Collision on South Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos

San Diego, California – A driver was killed in a Thursday afternoon car accident in San Marcos, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The fatal crash happened on South Rancho Santa Fe Road, near La Colusa Drive, at around 7 a.m. on February 23.

A Jeep was traveling northbound when the driver struck a raised median and veered into the southbound lanes where it was struck by a 2008 Lincoln MKZ.

The Jeep overturned and caught fire, with firefighters having to extricate both drivers from the vehicles.

The unidentified driver of the Lincoln was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident
