Man Killed in Firebaugh Car Crash on 5 Freeway near Nees Avenue

Firebaugh, California – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash that happened at the intersection in Firebaugh on Monday night.

The fatal crash was reported at around 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 5 Freeway at Nees Avenue, just west of Los Banos.

As per preliminary investigation, an 85-year-old man from Sacramento was driving a 2005 Ford southbound in the slow lane of Interstate 5.

A 32-year-old man was also driving a Chevrolet southbound and was trying to pass the slower Ford in the fast lane.

For unknown reasons, the elderly man made a sharp turning movement to the left, causing the Ford to travel into the path of the Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet then crashed into the left side of the Ford, pushing it into the dirt median where it burst into flames.

The Chevrolet overturned and came to a rest in the middle of the southbound lanes.

The unidentified driver of the Ford was killed in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
