Man Killed in Hesperia Head-On Collision Identified

Hesperia, California: 67-year-old Hector R. Gagliardi of Hinkley was identified as the man who died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Monday night in Hesperia.

According to the Hesperia Police Department, the accident occurred around 10:34 p.m. on Mariposa Road near Mesa Street.

Police officers and the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene and found a silver 2007 Toyota Yaris, a red 2003 Ford F-150, and a Hyundai Tucson involved in the collision.

Deputies used batons to break windows on the pickup truck and reach Gagliardi, who was driving the vehicle.

Gagliardi was determined to have sustained life-threatening injuries. CPR was performed at the scene before he was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. The driver later died while receiving treatment.

Two adults, a man, and a woman, inside the SUV required minor extrication. The husband and wife were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The adult male driving the Yaris suffered cuts to his face from broken glass. The driver declined hospitalization.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Gagliardi was driving the pickup truck northbound on Mariposa Road when he crossed into the southbound lanes and sideswiped the Toyota Yaris. The pickup truck continued onto Mariposa Road and collided head-on with the Hyundai Tucson.
