Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Pileup on SR-4 in Stockton
Stockton, California: A 35-year-old Stockton man died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Wednesday morning on State Route 4 in Stockton.
According to the California Highway Patrol Stockton station, the incident occurred around 5:36 a.m., involving five vehicles.
Authorities said the Stockton man was traveling eastbound on the highway when he attempted to overtake two cars by entering the westbound lane.
Due to the dense fog at that time, the driver failed to see an oncoming Volvo big rig on time. He tried to avoid the truck but his car was hit by the big rig and sent spinning into eastbound traffic.
His car collided with the Hyundai and Toyota that he was attempting to overtake. The car continued to spin out of control back into the westbound lane where it was struck on the passenger side by an oncoming Ford whose driver could not see the vehicle due to the fog.
The man’s car then slammed into an embankment, where it stopped on its wheels.
Police said they do not think drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
