Maria Aguilar Dies after Being Hit by Loose Axle on Highway 99 in Merced
Merced, California – 58-year-old Maria Guzman Aguilar has been identified as the man who was killed in a car crash on Thursday in Merced.
The fatal crash happened on Highway 99 near Franklin Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities say an axle came off the big rig at a construction zone and jumped over the center divider and crashed into a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The Avenal woman was killed in the accident.
A 5-year-old child in the truck’s backseat was unhurt.
The driver of the big rig was uninjured. He remained at the accident scene and cooperated with the authorities.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
