Moped Rider Killed in Crash in Moss Landing Identified

Moss Landing, California: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the man who died in a moped accident Wednesday morning in Moss Landing.

52-year-old Michael Pacifico Carrillo of Prunedale died at the scene of the crash that happened around 5:48 a.m. at Castroville Boulevard and Elkhorn Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old Watsonville man was driving a red Honda Civic eastbound on Castroville Boulevard and Carrillo was riding a red Honda Forza moped westbound on Castroville Boulevard.

Police said the Watsonville man was preparing to turn left onto northbound Elkhorn Road as Carrillo approached the intersection.

The Civic driver went ahead to make the left turn but did so directly in the path of the moped.

Carrillo crashed into the car and got ejected. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities ruled out intoxication as a contributing factor.
