Mother and Child Hospitalized After Fresno Pedestrian Accident Near Birney Elementary School
Mother and Child Hit and Injured by Car in Central Fresno
Fresno, California: A mother and her child were hospitalized after they were struck by a car Thursday morning near Birney Elementary School in Central Fresno.
According to police, the accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on First Street and Princeton Avenue.
According to investigators, the incident happened when a woman driving a red Volkswagen Beetle east on Princeton turned onto First, where a mother and her four children were crossing the street in a crosswalk.
The car hit the mother and one of her children.
The 11-year-old girl was dragged by the car just south of Cornell Avenue. The girl was able to get up and talk after the accident.
Emergency personnel transported the child to the hospital in an unknown condition.
The mother was also hospitalized with injuries to her lower left leg.
Another child, a 4-year-old, was also taken to the hospital after the collision with the complaint of pain.
Witnesses said the Volkswagen ran a red light, causing the accident.
Authorities are collecting information to help establish the cause of the crash.
