Motorcyclist Killed, 4 Others Injured in Thurston County Crash

Thurston County, Washington: A motorcyclist died, and four others were hurt in a multi-vehicle accident that happened last week on U.S. 101 in Thurston County.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the pileup occurred Wednesday, July 12, near Mud Bay Road at around 1 p.m.

The crash happened when a 41-year-old Rochester man driving a Chevy pickup truck hit a motorcyclist who was slowing for traffic.

The impact caused the bike to crash into a Nissan hatchback which, in turn, hit a Honda sports utility car.

The bike and the Chevy were totaled.

The motorcyclist, only identified as a 46-year-old Olympia man, died in the crash.

Four occupants of the hatchback were taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital with injuries. The patients were identified as a 23-year-old Yelm man, a 40-year-old Yelm man, a 44-year-old McKenna man, and a 55-year-old man from Newport News, Virginia.

The Honda driver, a 45-year-old Puyallup man, and the Chevy driver were not injured.

Police said the rider was wearing a helmet, and all the car occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Authorities said driving too closely caused the accident.
