Cathedral City, California: A 20-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a car Sunday night in Cathedral City, authorities said.

The Cathedral City Police Department said they were notified about the crash at around 9:13 p.m. near Date Palm Drive and 35th Avenue.

A preliminary investigation showed that a motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Date Palm Drive when he collided with a car turning onto the same road from Royal Palms Country Club.

The 20-year-old rider suffered major injuries in the accident. Cathedral City firefighters responded and attempted CPR, but the motorcyclist died at the scene.
