Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Pickup Truck in San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo, California: A motorcyclist died after he collided with a pickup truck Tuesday evening at an intersection in Avila Beach, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck took place around 6 p.m. on Avila Beach Drive at First Street.

Authorities said a 58-year-old Arroyo Grande man was riding a 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Avila Beach Drive, approaching the First Street intersection, which is controlled by a traffic signal.

At the same time, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was turning left onto Avila Beach Drive from First Street.

The motorcyclist proceeded to enter the intersection directly in the path of the pickup truck, leading to a collision.

The rider was ejected from the bike and sustained serious injuries. Paramedics responded and transported the victim to Adventist Health Sierra Vista in San Luis Obispo, where he later died from his injuries.

The 29-year-old Santa Maria man driving the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
