Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Cash in Lompoc

Lompoc, California: 23-year-old Joseph Cruz died in a motorcycle collision that happened Wednesday evening in Lompoc, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck was reported just before 5:45 p.m. on Highway 1, about 1.8 miles south of Highway 246.

Authorities said Cruz, a resident of Lompoc, was riding a 2015 Yamaha southbound on the highway at a speed of more than 55 mph when his motorcycle drifted into the oncoming lane around a curve.

Cruz went directly into the path of an oncoming 2022 Tesla traveling at about 55 mph.

The vehicles collided head-on.

Cruz died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The 38-year-old Lompoc woman driving the Tesla sustained minor injuries.

The highway was shut down for a few hours during an investigation.
