4 Seriously Injured in Sorrento Valley Crash on Carroll Road near Pacific Heights Boulevard; Speed and DUI Suspected
Multiple Injured in Head-On Collision on Carroll Road in San Diego
San Diego, California: Multiple people were injured in a head-on collision involving a speeding driver suspected of DUI that happened Friday afternoon in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley neighborhood.
Around 1:30 p.m., the San Diego Police Department and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the 6100 block of Carroll Road near Pacific Heights Boulevard, where an SUV and a sedan collided head-on.
Police said a Toyota 4Runner with six occupants, five of whom were family members headed to a funeral, collided head-on with a 2020 Toyota Model 86 sedan.
The sedan was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the car and veered over the double yellow lines into the path of the SUV.
Three occupants in the SUV were seriously injured. The driver sustained a broken spine, left ankle and sternum. One passenger suffered a broken spine and internal bleeding. Another passenger was hospitalized with broken ribs and internal bleeding. The other passengers suffered unspecified wounds.
The driver of the sedan was hospitalized with broken legs, pelvis and left arm.
Investigators said speed and driving under the influence of drugs played a role in the accident.
