Multiple Injured in Santa Barbara Crash on Highway 101
Santa Barbara, California: The California Highway Patrol is investigating an early Tuesday morning car collision that happened in Santa Barbara, sending six people to the hospital.
The pileup was reported just after 12 a.m. on Highway 101 south of the Carrillo Street off-ramp.
Three vehicles collided in the southbound lanes for an unknown reason.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and found the occupants of two vehicles in need of extrication.
Six people were injured, one seriously. All the patients were taken by three AMR ambulances to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
One of the cars hit and destroyed a large section of guardrail that ended up on the off-ramp.
Several other vehicles also sustained damage due to debris in the roadway.
Only one southbound lane was operational while emergency crews helped the victims, and the scene was cleared.
