Oceanside Police Officer Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash at Mission Avenue and Roymar Road
Oceanside, California: A police officer and a civilian were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a car crash involving an Oceanside Police Department patrol vehicle.
The accident took place around 9:14 a.m. at Mission Avenue and Roymar Road.
Authorities said a 60-year-old Oceanside resident was driving a white Toyota Corolla westbound on Mission Avenue, approaching a red light at Roymar Road.
For an unknown reason, the driver drove around stopped cars and into the bicycle lane before driving past the red light without slowing down or stopping.
At that time, a police officer in a marked Oceanside police patrol vehicle was making a left turn at the intersection.
The Corolla struck the front of the police car.
The driver of the Corolla was hospitalized at Scripps La Jolla with moderate injuries.
The officer was taken to Tri-City Medical Center with minor injuries. The officer was treated and released.
