Officer Killed in Carson Car Crash on 405 Freeway ID’d as Chad Swanson
Carson, California: 35-year-old Chad Swanson was the motorcycle officer who died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Wednesday morning on 405 Freeway in Carson, according to authorities.
The pileup occurred around 5:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Del Amo Boulevard.
The California Highway Patrol said it appears a car may have been traveling at an unsafe speed and possibly conducted an unsafe lane change, causing a four-vehicle collision.
Officer Swanson was ejected from his motorcycle in the crash.
Paramedics took the officer to the hospital, where he died.
Swanson had been with the Manhattan Beach Police Department for 13 years. He is survived by his wife, three little boys, his mother and father.
