Omar Arriaga Killed in Monterey County Crash on Highway 101

Monterey County, California – Omar Arriaga, 49, of Salinas, has been identified as the man who was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Saturday morning in Monterey County.

The fatal collision was reported around 11:45 a.m. on Highway 101 at Gloria Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

A 16-year-old male driver was driving a southbound 2021 Chevrolet 2500 that was pulling a trailer when, for unknown reasons, he hit a Chevrolet Colorado that was ahead of him.

The impact of the crash caused the Colorado to lose control and overturn.

Arriaga was driving the Colorado and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Colorado was taken to Natividad Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

The crash caused a chain reaction involving three other vehicles, but no one was injured.

Authorities say alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
