One Killed, Another Seriously Hurt in I-880 Multi-Car Crash

Oakland, California: One person died, and another was badly hurt in a multi-car pileup that happened early Friday morning on Interstate 880 in Oakland.

The California Highway Patrol said five vehicles collided at around 1:44 a.m. in the southbound lanes near 66th Avenue.

Officers did not immediately establish the cause of the accident.

One person was declared dead at the scene.

Another person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

CHP said about two hours after the crash, motorists were backed up in the area when a driver crashed into those cars in a separate 10-vehicle collision near the scene of the first crash.

The second collision left one person with serious injuries.

CHP officers are investigating.

Anthony Parra and Alyssa Parra Killed in Landers Crash on SR 247

Landers, California – Anthony Parra, 36, and Alyssa Parra, 33, have been identified as the two High Desert residents who died in a car accident last week in Landers.

The accident occurred at about 8:35 a.m. on State Route 247 near Olivine Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Anthony was driving a Kia north on SR 247 and collided head-on with a Jeep Cherokee that drifted from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes.

Anthony was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Alyssa was riding in the Kia and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to Desert Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Redding, California – A man was seriously injured in a car accident that happened on Monday afternoon in Redding.

The accident was reported around 3:40 p.m. on East Cypress Avenue east of Churn Creek Road, according to the Redding Police Department.

A motorcycle reportedly collided with an SUV in unclear circumstances.

The rider, identified only as a 34-year-old Mt. Shasta man, was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to the hospital for treatment in critical condition.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Damian Lopez-Avelino Arrested in Connection to Nov. 23rd Concord Hit-and-Run Collision

Concord, California: 19-year-old Damian Lopez-Avelino from Concord was arrested after an 86-year-old man died in a hit-and-run accident that happened Thursday evening in Concord.

According to the Concord Police Department, at around 6:49 p.m. on November 23, police received reports of a collision at Oak Grove Road and Treat Boulevard.

Police responded to the scene and learned that a second related crash had happened at Oak Grove Road and Ryan Road.

A passenger in one of the cars, only identified as an 86-year-old man, was injured in the crash that happened at Ryan Road.

The victim was taken to John Muir Health, Concord Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

CPD reported on Tuesday that Lopez-Avelino was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility without bail following the hit-and-run accident. The suspect faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing bodily injury, hit-and-run with injury, and driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed.
