One Person Seriously Injured in Big Rig Accident on Highway 99 in Fresno

Fresno, California: One person was seriously injured in a traffic collision involving two big rigs that happened Wednesday afternoon on Highway 99 in downtown Fresno.

The accident was reported just before 5 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway north of Highway 41.

Two big rigs and a Ford F-250 utility truck were involved in the crash.

Investigators said one semi-truck was traveling in front of the pickup truck and both vehicles were stopped for heavy traffic in the area. The other semi-truck was traveling directly behind the Ford when it failed to stop for the stopped traffic ahead and rear-ended the pickup truck.

The pickup truck was pushed by the force of the impact into the semi-truck ahead of it, pinning the driver.

The pickup driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. The victim was hospitalized with major injuries.

The collision is under investigation.
