DUI Suspected in Fatal Crash near Henderson and I Streets in Eureka
Passenger Killed, Driver Injured in Eureka Crash
Eureka, California: A passenger died, and a driver was hospitalized after a traffic collision that happened Tuesday afternoon near an intersection in Eureka.
The Eureka Police Department and the Humboldt Bay Fire responded to Henderson Street and I Streets after receiving reports of a crash with entrapment around 12:10 p.m.
The responders found an overturned car with the driver and a passenger trapped inside after it collided with another vehicle.
The driver was extricated and transported to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The passenger was extricated and pronounced dead. The deceased was identified but the next of kin were yet to be notified.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the car that rolled over was traveling north on I Street and failed to stop at the red light at Henderson, colliding with the other car heading west on Henderson.
Investigators also believe impairment contributed to the accident.
An investigation into the collision is still ongoing.
