Pregnant Woman Killed in Head-On Crash in Cottonwood Identified

Cottonwood, California: The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the pregnant woman who died in a car collision that happened Monday morning in Cottonwood as Ashley Slavens, 34, of Anderson.

The wreck took place around 4:40 a.m. on Bowman Road near Adams Road.

According to investigators, Slavens was driving a 2010 Chevy Equinox west on Bowman when, for an unknown reason, crossed the double-yellow lines into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2018 Ford F-150 driven by Joshua Gay, 39, of Cottonwood.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Slavens, who was nine months pregnant at the time of the accident, was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where she was later pronounced dead by emergency personnel. Her unborn baby also did not survive the crash.

Gay was also taken to Mercy Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The collision is being investigated by CHP and Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
