Apple Valley, California: Rebecca Elizabeth Black was arrested after a car collision that left a man critically injured Sunday evening in Apple Valley.

According to the Apple Valley Police Department, the accident occurred around 7:16 p.m. on Bear Valley Road near Deep Creek Road.

Apple Valley police officers and firefighters responded to the scene after they were notified about the crash.

The responders found a man with severe injuries and another person with minor injuries. The firefighters requested a medical helicopter and a ground ambulance to transport the victims to the hospital.

The seriously injured man was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition. The other patient was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Chrysler 300 was stalled in the middle turning lane, receiving a jump start from a van.

At that time, Black was driving a blue Hyundai Elantra east on Bear Valley Road when she failed to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the Chrysler.

The critically injured man was at the trunk dealing with cables when he was smashed between the two vehicles.

Police officers arrested Black at the scene on suspicion of DUI. She was booked into the High Desert Detention Center. She was being held on a $250,000 bail and expected to be arraigned in court on December 17, 2024.

The crash is under investigation by the Apple Valley Police Department.
