It’s fitting that a year and a half after its release, Risk of Rain 2, a roguelike about excess, is adding new features. Risk of Rain 2’s makers gets almost set to release their first paid expansion, Survivors of the Void, on March 1 after a free update last year. The new Railgunner hero transforms Risk of Raina into a first-person shooter and adds an endless wave-based survivor mode.
The Railgunner’s sniper rifle can get used to aiming through a scope, although not wholly. Massive damage shots and one-hit kills are the hallmarks of the Railgunner. Rain is also a possibility. 2 survivors can stack items for a higher chance of crit.
However, that doesn’t work on the Railgunner because the sniper scope already displays weak places on adversaries who receive 1000 percent damage from a sniper bolt. (Crit chance items, on the other hand, stack on harm for the Railgunner.)
The Railgunner’s main assault is massive sniper shots, but she also possesses a couple of skills for knocking out close adversaries or propelling herself out of danger. The Railgunner can also do an active reload as in Gears of War to get a new shell in the chamber faster and deal more damage on the next shot. Her ult is an even more powerful sniper shot that deals 4000 percent damage and causes the weapon to overheat.
New monsters, places, and the horde mode, which sounds like an evolution of the game’s Void Fields stage, are all included in the $15 addition. You face unending waves of foes, earning an item every round and fighting a boss every five areas until you die. From time to time, expect some random artifact mutators to throw everything into disarray.
Hopoo Games has more surprises in store for Survivors of the Void, including another playable survivor. I’m guessing the other new character will be more up-close-and-personal, as the Railgunner is all about ranged damage.
