Scarlett Medel Dies in Hesperia Car Accident

Hesperia, California: 29-year-old Scarlett Medel of Hesperia died in a two-vehicle collision that took place Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in the city.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the collision occurred around 1:50 p.m. at Cottonwood Avenue and El Centro Street.

According to investigators, Medel was driving a 2004 Honda Accord east on El Centro Street and stopped at a stop sign at Cottonwood Avenue.

At the same time, a 62-year-old Hesperia man was traveling southbound on Cottonwood Avenue in a Mazda, approaching the intersection.

Police said Medel drove east into the intersection and crossed the south lane of Cottonwood directly into the path of the Mazda.

The Mazda hit the driver’s side of the Honda.

There is no stop sign regulating traffic along Cottonwood Avenue.

Medel was taken to the hospital for treatment but she later died from her injuries.

The Mazda driver’s condition was not mentioned.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
