Sergio Briceno Garcia Dies After San Diego Pedestrian Accident on I-5

San Diego, CA. – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man killed in a pedestrian accident involving multiple vehicles earlier this month in San Diego as Sergio Briceno Garcia, 68, of San Diego.

The deadly collision happened on northbound Interstate 5, south of Interstate 5 at about 10:08 p.m. on August 2.

The CHP officials said Garcia was pushing a shopping cart in the roadway.

At the same time, a black sedan and utility truck were heading northbound. The sedan, that was in front of the truck, veered left to allow the truck driver to see the pedestrian.

The truck driver was not able to stop and struck Garcia. The impact sent the man onto the roadway where he was hit by several other cars.

The truck driver remained at the scene and called police.

Responding officers and medics declared Garcia dead at 10:33 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
