Shadow Warrior 3 tipped for March 1

Shadow Warrior 3, the next first-person tale of ninjas, demons, and insane firearms, was leaked on the Microsoft Store in January, indicating a March 1 release date. Microsoft was correct: March 1 is the date, and we now have a new trailer to prove it.

Shadow Warrior’s trademark blend of goofiness, enormous foes, and severe brutality gets featured in the trailer. It also appears to be more with Shadow Warrior 2 than the revived series’ initial game, which is far from “serious” but more restrained than prior installments.

Fans with keen ears will also notice that Lo Wang’s voice has changed this time around. That’s because Mike Moh will play Lo Wang, Andromeda Dunker will play Motoko, and SungWon Cho will play Zilla in Shadow Warrior 3. Hoji, Lo Wang’s reluctant partner from the first game, will be played by Alex Dobrenko.

In an email to PC Gamer, Devolver’s Robbie Paterson explained, “Since rebooting the Shadow Warrior franchise, Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital have aimed to modernize the series, and part of that is correcting our mistake of casting a voice actor inconsistent with the hero Lo Wang’s cultural background.”

“Both teams are ecstatic to start a new chapter with the incredible Mike Moh, and they will be eternally grateful to Jason Liebrecht for his contributions to the series. Mike used to kill dragons as a child, so we’ve spent that delicious, sweet stock exchange money on some extremely risky katana purchases in case he ever wants to teach us how to do it.”

The difference was immediately noticeable, but I hadn’t noticed it before, so I went back through the previous half-dozen Shadow Warrior 3 trailers. It turns out that Lo Wang hasn’t spoken in any of them since the 2020 teaser trailer—and unless my ears are deceiving me (which they most certainly aren’t), the voice in that video gets provided by Liebrecht.

He voiced the character in the first two games. The first public revelation of Moh as Lo Wang is today’s release date trailer, according to Devolver.
