Simi Valley Bicyclist Hit and Killed by SUV

Simi Valley, California: The Simi Valley Police Department said 45-year-old Patricia Cooper died after she was hit by an SUV while riding a bicycle Thursday afternoon at an intersection in the city.

The accident was reported around 1:45 p.m. at Fitzgerald Road and Erringer Road.

Police and other emergency personnel responded to the intersection shortly after receiving reports of the collision.

Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Cooper was riding a bicycle west on Fitzgerald Road, and a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 was heading south on Erringer Road when the accident occurred.

Police said, for an unknown reason, the SUV struck the cyclist in a crosswalk.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Investigators said impairment was not considered a contributing factor.
