2 Killed After Car Collides with Fire Truck at South Avalon and East Compton Boulevards
Street Racing Suspected in Double Fatal Compton Car Crash
Compton, California: Two people died in a Compton crash involving a fire engine, and investigators suspect street racing was a contributing factor.
The collision happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at South Avalon and East Compton boulevards.
Authorities said two cars, including a blue PT Cruiser, may have been racing westbound on Compton Boulevard when firefighters were heading northbound on Avalon Boulevard responding to a traffic collision.
Investigators said the fire engine had a green light and proceeded to cross the intersection with its lights activated when the PT cruiser collided with the truck.
The two occupants in the Cruiser, a man and a woman between the ages of 25 and 30, died in the crash.
Four firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department Station 95 were hospitalized at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with non-critical injuries.
The intersection was closed to allow an investigation and the scene to be cleared.
