Susan Insch Killed After Car Crash on Highway 33 near Soda Lake Road

Buttonwillow, California – Susan Lorraine Insch, 70, has been identified as the woman killed in a deadly crash on Highway 33 in Buttonwillow, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The deadly collision happened at about 3:40 p.m. on State Route 33 near Soda Lake Road.

Police said a 24-year-old man from Bakersfield was heading southbound in a semi-trailer when he swerved into the northbound lanes for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into a Toyota Tundra operated by 72-year-old.

Insch, a front passenger of the Tundra, was declared dead at the accident site.

The 72-year-old driver sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

The 24-year-old male truck driver was treated for minor injuries at the crash site.

Police did not believe drugs and alcohol played a role in the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.
