Teen Dead After DUI Suspect Hits Car Occupied by Family of 7 in Phoenix

Phoenix, California: A teenage boy died, and six others were injured when a suspected DUI driver hit their family car Sunday morning in north Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, the incident happened at around 8 a.m. near 31st Street and Greenway Road.

The driver of a pickup truck was traveling south on 31st Street when he failed to stop at the red light on Greenway Road and turned right on the eastbound lanes while going west.

He continued in the wrong direction and crashed into a car occupied by seven family members, including two adults and five children.

All the family members were taken to a hospital, where a teenage boy died from his injuries.

Two other boys were listed in critical condition but were later stabilized. Another boy, a girl, a man, and a woman were in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene after the collision. Police said the driver showed signs of intoxication and was expected to be booked into jail for charges of manslaughter and DUI.

The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the collision.
