Teen E-Bike Rider Seriously Injured after Colliding with Car in San Diego

San Diego, California: A 17-year-old male rider was seriously injured after being hit by a car Saturday afternoon at an intersection in San Diego’s Bay Park neighborhood.

The San Diego Police Department said the collision happened around 5:10 p.m. at Fairfield Street and Huxley Street.

According to investigators, the teen was riding an off-road Surron northbound on Fairfield Street, and a 41-year-old man was driving a 2001 Mercedes E320 south on Fairfield Street.

As the driver and the rider approached the intersection of Huxley Street, the driver turned left onto Huxley and collided with the e-bike.

The teen rider was ejected onto the ground, sustaining serious injuries, including a cerebral air embolism and multiple facial fractures. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
