Teen Hit and Killed by Amtrak Train in San Diego

San Diego, California: A 17-year-old boy died after he was struck by an Amtrak train Friday afternoon on tracks near an intersection in San Diego.

The accident took place around 12:30 p.m. near Sorrento Valley Road and Sorrento Valley Boulevard.

According to authorities, three boys were riding their bicycles when they stopped at the crossing arms to wait for a northbound train to pass. When the train passed through, one of the boys, a 17-year-old boy, crossed the tracks on his bike not realizing there was also a passing southbound train.

The teen was struck and killed at the scene by the train.

His friends were not injured.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
